Exactly, who doesnt know them and most likely you also dont know them. Kiuas started playing their mix of Power, Heavy and Swedish Metal in 2000 in the town of Espoo, Finland.
After two successful demos Rage of Achilles picked them up and released, as a short introduction to the band and the upcoming full-length, the MCD Winter in June (4 Songs, 22 Minutes).
Normally I dont know what to do with this kind of music. No, I know precisely what to do with it; throw it in the garbage bin. Well, that is maybe a bit exaggerated . But it is a fact that I can stand only a few Power-Metal bands. Kiuas is different. Not that they are so original, that is not it. It is something else, I think their well-balanced mix of styles, the folk elements, the variation in the music and the structure of the songs; it is so much more than screaming in a leather pants and doing posses. The above mentioned variation is best noticeable on the fourth track; between the raging chords and the screaming at the top of the voice, Kiuas delivers us, the respected listener, a nice Finnish folk melody, things like that keeps the listener interested.
The four songs presented on this MCD are promising and, I think, shows the variety of Kiaus and their musical abilities. It is a pity that the booklet doesnt have the lyrics printed in it and that the packaging is a typical Power-Metal-like. You know; wood, sky, bird, fire. Besides that there isnt too much to complain.
